The first archery
instructor on record at camp is Rex Murdock, an Eagle Scout from Portland,
but there is no information about where his archery range was located.
We know that as time went on archery targets were set up at the north end
of the Boone field , where Frank Bailey taught archery classes.
The archery range was probably moved more than any other program area. First to the field that is the current parking lot until the obstacle course was created. It was then moved to the head of the road, some years in front of the present “Camp” sign and some years in front of the "Hinds" sign. Later it was moved back to the field across from Cadigan Lodge. Next, it was located at the site of the current B-B range. Finally, with some earth moving, it was relocated to the present site. Notable archery instructors included Emile Bourgoin and Mike King, both of whom moved on to more significant roles on the camp staff. |
