The 1927 craftshop was a tent! In 1931 it was moved into the original dining hall which was destroyed by heavy snow in 1952. From 1953 thru 1955 the old ice house and an army tent served as the craftshop.

The present craftshop, named in honor of Frank W. P. Bailey, was built in 1956 to replace the previous craftshop.  It was erected behind the blockhouse, with staff members joining in to complete it in time for the summer season.  Designed with Frank Bailey’s ideas, the shop features an enclosed staff area which included a table saw, band saw, jig saw, and supply cabinets for craft projects.   Uncle Frank intentionally left the crafts area  floorboards with spaces between them, so that the litter and sawdust could fall through! A service window provided staff access to the crafts area in which boys did their projects and received instruction in merit badges, including woodcarving, carpentry, basketry, painting and metalwork. As time went on, the crafts area proved to be inadequate, so various shelters have been used in the open area in front of the shop to provide more space for boys to work on their projects.

Frank Bailey worked here as craftshop director until his retirement after the 1970 camp season. The shop was dedicated to Frank in 1974.
