The Cub Scout B-B Range became
a program area in 1978 when the Fun Pack Weekend program was started.
Over the years it has been located in several locations. It started
out in the Boone field area, moved to an area next to the current Rifle
Range around 1980. From roughly 1986 to 1992 it was located in the area
where the Sean Tabor Family Retreat is now located. It was moved there
to make room for the new shotgun range near the rifle range. It finally
moved to its current location in 1993. Early B-B ranges consisted
of a firing line where mattresses we placed on the ground and a stand to
hold targets which was draped with old canvas to collect the B-B's.
The current BB range was built by Webelos from Pack 805 in Windham, led by Den Leader Bob Gosselin. It was built in memory of Phil Seaward, who was the Field Director at PTC at that time. Phil died from a brain tumor in his late 30s. The construction was completed by the families of the Webelos den from Pack 805, who were fortunate to have some skilled laborers among the group. Matt Gosselin was one of those Webelos Scouts that helped build it. The original design had an uncovered waiting area.
Tarps were first used to keep the area dry and finally the current canopy
was added. This area was also used for the Sunday leader's meeting
until the Sean Tabor Family Retreat was built.
