Until the fifties
almost all bathing was accomplished by “soap swims” held at the waterfront.
Many boys’ camps in those days had an early morning soap swim for the entire
camp on a daily basis to ensure that cleanliness was maintained.
The first shower in camp was in the old health lodge. Eventually a small
two-stall staff shower was built on the back of the chef's cabin/storage
bunker building, with warnings not to use it when dishwashing was going
on.
In the seventies the first camper
shower was set up near the nature area. In later years that facility was
remodeled and then replaced with a new building, a staff shower was built
near Boone and a second camper shower was constructed across the Tenny
River.
