These signs were
first set up by Program Director Bill Lockwood, in the late fifties.
We had been converting the camp water lines to plastic so there was a surplus
of old iron pipe which Bill had bent into U shapes and set up as frames
for a set of the twelve parts of the Scout Law. The signs now in
use resemble those handmade by staffman Emile Bourgoin, who also made several
of the campsite signs in the same style. The current signs were made
by Charlie Wilson to replace the ones made by Emile as they became worn
or lost.
Some years the signs were all placed
in a single display near Cadigan Lodge but many would agree that they are
most effective when they are spaced along the road. In the early
years they were spread out from the end of the road to Baden-Powell campsite.
The range was shortened when the main parking lot was moved from the area
near MacMillan campsite to its present location across from Cadigan.
