Camp Nutter

Camp William Nutter, located on Loon Pond in Acton, Maine, was originally the summer camp for York County Council. When that council merged into Pine Tree Council in 1935, it was initially not used as a summer camp; however, sometime after 1944 the council opened it as a summer camp. It operated as such into the 1950s. The earliest dated patch is 1949. In later years it was mostly used by the York District for weekend events & Cub Scout Day Camp.

Camp Nutter, the name for the property once owned by William S. Nutter and later donated by him in the 1930s, includes a few rustic facilities such as bunk cabins, indoor and outdoor communal spaces, and hiking trails, and has served as an important recreational center for countless individuals. The property was sold to Camp Kita in 2021.  The Camp Kita team plans to restore much of the existing infrastructure and build new structures, including bathhouses, a medical center, and a dining hall — all while maintaining the history and charm of the site. Camp Kita will honor William S. Nutter in naming an important and meaningful campfire area, where the non-profit hopes many more memories will be made.
