Initially I had only planned to include Camp Hinds staff that we had loss on these pages. I am so heartbroken with the loss of this staffer I wanted to remember Remy here. |

Still Giving to Others
My beautiful boy saved 4 lives last night. He
saved a man in his 70s, a man in his sixties, a woman in her 30s, and another
woman in her 20s. This is just from organs, we won’t know the total number
of lives touched by his final gift for 4 weeks ish.

I served as Program Director at Camp Bomazeen
during the summer of 2021. Prior to camp Paul Gooch and I were conducting
youth staff interviews. One of those inverviews was with Remy.
Paul and I were so impressed, we decided Remy was staff material within
the first five minutes. Remy served that summer and was a model staffer
- I wish we could have cloned him. We will miss him.

Please help Rémy continue his legacy -
be kind to one another, hold the door open, smile, and care for those you
know and even those you don’t. We couldn’t be more proud to
call him ours. Now it is time to let him spread his wings a little more.
We love you Rémy always and forever no matter what!

The following are some of the
thoughts and wishes that were posted on Facebook.
There were hundreds of posts on facebook expressing condolences, sorrow, prayers, and love for Remy and his family. Below is a sampling. |
When he was 13, Remy organized an effort to provide
54 veterans with care packages filled with mouthwash, shampoo, razors,
etc. He recognized at that young age that he had a responsibility to try
to make the lives of others better. I wish the world had more souls like
Remy Pettengill.
His care packages of hygiene supplies inside handmade zippered bags just were the perfect way to honor veterans. So many veterans struggle after their period of service to our nation and it can be a challenge for them. Remy showed us all that we should be reaching out to show the decency in a fellow human. More than 50 veterans had their lives improved because of Remy. Did he make a difference in this world? You bet he did and I wish we had longer with him. ~ Chuck Mahaleris |
Such a tragic event. I have no words….
Only pain in my heart. Hug every one in your family. I
am pleased to have been just a small part of his life.

Gone too soon. I will always remember your smile
and laugh. Amazing youth gone too soon. Rest peacefully my fellow Scouter.
Until the Great Scoutmaster allows us to meet again.

It's so sad to hear about this. Met Rémy
at FPW, Such a great kid with a contagious personality.

So very sorry for this outcome. I new Remy since
he started school in China as I worked in the system as a substitute teacher.
Remy was a joy to have in class...always had a smile on his face. His respect
and kindness towards others was beyond what one would expect of his years.
Remy and your family will be in my prayers.

Remy was a wonderful young man. I can't begin
to imagine what you are going through right now, and my heart is breaking
for you. Keeping all of you in my prayers.
~ Leah Lord Barry |
Fly high Remy your community will always make
you proud. Your legacy will live on for years.

I sadly don’t have any photos of you but I have
a million of the waterfront where you would say “Hi Amber” every polar
bear dip and was so lucky to watch you grow up into the young man I know
you to be. I remember the discussions we would have sitting down at the
picnic tables while I was overseeing this waterfront. This is the camp
Ive been so lucky to watch you grow up at. When I got to see you again
this summer I was so proud to see how much you’ve grown, you kinda shocked
me not going to lie. I saw the care and consideration you have for others
and it broke my heart in a good way just seeing how amazing of a young
man you’re turning out to be! I love you Rémy, I know you know this,
I’m proud of you for the young man you’ve become and I’m praying for you
every day! I know you can’t read this but you’re in my mind endlessly.
love you kid!

It has been an honor and privilege
to have known this amazing young man! RIP Remy!

Today is a sad day for our family. A young man’s
time with us and this world is coming to a close. A boy I have know his
whole life from reading books to him early in the morning before anyone
else was up in the house to watching him become a wonderful young man supporting
him in the beginning of scouts to watching him become a Eagle Scout.
Remy Pettengill could always bring a smile to your face no matter how bad
of a day you were having, his silly antics and great hugs will you you
could never forget. Always willing to lend a helping hand, the world has
lost a great person taken to early due to a tragic traffic accident involving
a drunk driver.
We love you Remy you always will be missed. ~ Eric Harrison |
Remy will be missed. Even though we only met
back 2019, during NYLT, you made the whole staff laugh and always
had a smile on your face. That is what Scouting is all about, learning
and having fun. You are the Scout Law. The perfect example of what one
can do in life and in, unfortunately death. Rest easy my Scouting friend,
until we sit again at a campfire in the sky, save me a seat next to you.
~ Jonathan Giles |
You were one in a million, Remy. So thankful
to share a little time with you!
~ Susan Shoberg |
Rest easy Rémy, until we meet again

So very sad. What a wonderful human to give life
in such tragedy. God bless your entire family.
~ Sherry H Robinson |
My emotions are all over the place. Heartbroken.
Prayers for the Pettingill’s, friends and scouting community as we all
come to terms with this Horrible tragedy.
~ Tammy Lynn Smith |
Every time I saw Remy he would be hugging my
daughter Lilly “River”. He was a protector as I’m sure he always will be.
I asked her if he hugged people all the time. She said yes. He would see
someone and say “you look broken. I can’t fix you but I can sure make you
laugh”. And she said he did.
My daughter was going thru a rough time and he was so good to her. I knew she was ok with him as a friend. I’m sure he is still protecting her. Thank you for having such an amazing son. Praying for all of you to get thru this. My heart breaks for you. ~ Teresa Potter |
