In the summer of 2011, I was asked to assist
with transportation for a CIT trip to the Songo
River Queen.
During the cruise, the captain pointed out various points of interest along the way. As we traveled down the eastern shore of Long Lake we arrived at the area known as Arrowhead Point. The captain noted that at one point Arrowhead Point comprised about 100 acres and was the largest parcel of land on Long Lake owned by a single family. |
He went on to describe how Arrowhead Lodge was
originally built in Rangeley, Maine nearly 3 hours away. He explained
how it was disassembled, each board numbered, brought to Naples and reassembled.
In the 50's the area became Arrowhead Lodge and cottages. He said that
over the years smaller parcels were sold off. He ended his talk by
saying that the family that first owned the nearly 100 acre Arrowhead Point
parcel was the Hinds family.
After some research we discovered that Arrowhead Lodge was owned by William Hinds' aunt and uncle, Grace and Albert Hinds. Albert was also the author of the book "History and Genealogy of the Hinds Family". Ken from the Songo River Queen sent us a copy of "Her Story or Meanderings on Home at Arrowhead" which was written in 2006 and a copy of the Arrowhead Lodge brochure from the 50's. |

Between 2006 and 2011 the section of Arrowhead
Point containing Arrowhead Lodge was up for sale and valued between $1.3
and $1.75 million dollars. The sales info description is below:
