Sun Jul 07, 2019 11:56:55 Thomas Duquette Staff 1983 to 1985 | I still remember the good times I had at Camp. I still talk to old staff members. I will someday, return to see what camp looks like.
Tue Mar 21, 2017 06:52:15 Steffen Parker Program Director 1978 | My summer at Hinds,
a return to
Scouting after 10
years, was a great
experience with
George, Phil, Ken,
Ray, Steve, Mike,
Louie and the rest
of our staff. And
my special treat of
being able to play
with the jazz band
at the Amherst
Music Camp around
the corner. I was
to return in 1979
but Bud Jeffries
convinced me to be
the Base Director
at Matagamon that
next summer so I
did not return.
Now 35+ years later
I am back in
scouting with two
Eagle Scout sons, a
trip to Philmont in
2014, a new crew to
help develop, and a
staff position at
National Jamboree
on the horizon. I
hope to be at the
Camp Hinds 90th
this summer. Steffen Parker, Williston, VT ASM-OA; Troop 658 AA; Crew 658 Band Staff: National Jamboree 2017
Fri Dec 09, 2016 17:47:52 Don Richards camper (49-50) and staff from 51-56 | Loved this camp and
still do. Ran
Chipmunk Point for
three summers,
worked on the
waterfront with Reg
Harper, Camp
Directors were Wes
Wrignt (whom I
followed to his new
job at Quincy
Council), Dave
Jettinghoff.) Lodge
Chief, Vigil Honor
(#3 in the Lodge
behind Frank Bailey
and Clyde Nason,
Jr.) Very excited for a 90th reunion. This site is awesome and definitely brings back wonderful memories. By the way, the sailboats when I was there were lightning class and very fast. We raced Timanus and Hawthorne.

Mon Oct 27, 2014 11:27:00 William Peck Staff Member: 1981 - 1984 | First time visiting the website. Just got back from taking my 10yr old to a Cub Scout reservation outside of Atlanta, GA. Made me think of the fond memories of Camp Hinds. Saw a lot of familiar names and pictures on the site. I look forward to taking more time and posting some pictures and contributing.
Tue Sep 23, 2014 00:53:01 Pete Knudsen attended 1952-1955 | Although I lived in New Jersey, I went to Camp Hinds with my brother every summer for 8 weeks between 1952- 1955 Great times! Part of the adventure was taking the train out of NYC through Boston (north and south stations) to Portland and then a bus to Raymond. I believe the director was Wes Wesley, Spud Nason worked the crafts (gimp lanyards and stuff,) his son Spudling helped there. Bobo Judson worked the boats/sailboats. I stayed in the Byrd, Peary, Mac Arthur and Mac Millan camping areas. I remember getting kidded about my "funny NY accent." and horseshoe competing daily with a kid (last name Adams) who was from Cape Elizabeth. Lots more to remember of fun filled summers. I visited one September in the mid-90's still looked the same. I hope it has remained that way. Thanks for the great website.
Mon Sep 08, 2014 13:49:09 Harold H. Brown PhD, Prof. Emeritus Staff 50,51,52 Camper 47,48,49 | Just found this page and have many fond memories of my time at Camp Hinds. Received me Eagle there in 1950; had some great time with OA and being on the staff at Troop Byrd with Dewie Trefethen. Dan Johnson and Mel Williams were two of my heros.
Tue Jun 10, 2014 18:53:14 Phillip Hinds Hell I am a Hinds | Enjoyed reading about all the great time people have had at this camp. Hope many more families can build memories at Camp Hinds. Love looking at the old photos.
Fri Aug 30, 2013 13:23:31 Michael Rogers CIT 1968,Staff 1969 & 1971 | I became aware of this site after a recent visit to Camp Hinds on 08-16-2013. This being my first visit back to Camp Hinds in over 27 years. The ole Camp has seen some changes but it was basically the same. The small museum inside the ole Wreck Hall was really something with some of the pictures from when I was on staff. The dining hall with all the plaques was impressive especially when I found our CIT plague from 2nd session 1968. Dean, you have done a great job with this site. I have enjoyed it immensely and plan to return often. |
