FunPack Weekend 2012

There is no better way to enjoy the outdoor program of Cub Scouting than to attend one of our popular FunPack  Weekends. Each weekend offers a great opportunity to experience the excitement of overnight camping with your son.

2012 FunPack Theme

Our Theme for FunPacks will be “Wild West Adventures”!!! Our FunPack Weekend buckaroos will join with other young whippersnappers and explore the hidden valleys full of gold and wild adventures with lots of fun activities along with the chance to explore the great outdoors, learn new skills and enjoy being a kid!  Our Saturday evening campfire will be a fun-filled Hoe Down for all of our buckaroos so bring your wild west’ costumes and join the staff for lots of fun!

A Great Pack Activity!

Our purpose for the FunPack Weekend is to provide an environment to strengthen the parent/child relationship and introduce you to the fun and adventure of camping. Most Cub Scout Packs choose a particular weekend or weekends to attend and register together as a pack. Use this activity to qualify for the Summertime Pack Award or the new Cub Scout Outdoor Activity Award!

Sorry, but due to space restrictions, siblings are not allowed at FunPacks!

Camp will provide the campsites with tents and cots along with a great program! The pack is responsible for food and cooking at all FunPack Weekends.  Most packs find that this can be a very fun activity in itself.

During the day, you will experience exciting activities! Enjoy your time at the Craftshop, BB & archery ranges, swimming, sports, nature hikes and games! As evening comes wind down with a quiet campfire and enjoy the fellowship of your pack in your site.  Marshmallows and s’mores are a must!

How to Sign-up
Most Cub Scout Packs choose a particular weekend to attend and register together as a pack under the person designated as the FunPack Weekend Coordinator.  Choose a date and let all of your families know as early as possible with a deadline for when to get their money into the Pack to reserve their spot as space allows.  Once the majority of families have decided to attend, send in your Pack reservation with the money due to Pine Tree Council.  You can then add additional families to your counts once reserved for a specific weekend.

Some packs may choose to attend more than one weekend if you have a very large group or not all can attend the same weekend.  If just a few can attend- sign up and we will place you in a campsite with other small groups! If you have families that want to camp together- check out our Family Camp!

Health Forms & Medical Supervision

Health Forms: All adults and youth attending a FunPack Weekend must have a completed Class 1 Medical form on file.  The Health Form includes emergency phone numbers, parental/guardian permission to treat and a health history.  It does not require a doctor’s physical.

Medical Supervision at camp is under the direction of a licensed physician. Parents are responsible for handling and administering personal medications during a Funpack Weekend. A health officer is on duty at all times to handle minor injuries. If the injury or illness is serious, the person is brought to a local health care facility.

PTC Refund Policy

Individuals or groups that cancel a program reservation 30 days prior to the date of the event will receive a refund of fees paid less a 15% administrative charge. No refunds will be made after the 30-day cancellation period.
Physically Challenged Information

If you have any needs that require special attention, auxiliary aids or any reasonable accommodations, please let us know at least two weeks prior to your arrival at camp.
Check-in Suggestions

To try to help the FunPack Weekend Saturday morning check-in at Camp Hinds go as smoothly as possible- here are some suggestions for your Pack!
  • Try to carpool and arrive as a group as much as possible!
  • Have two adult leaders attend the Leaders Meeting at 9 AM at the Tabor Retreat (next to the parking lot).  At this meeting, they will receive camp updates, campsite assignments and vehicle passes.
  • Bring a copy of your pack roster to the leader’s Meeting.
  • Other adults can load camping and personal gear into a couple of pack vehicles to prepare for moving into camp.
  • Send the Cub Scouts along with a couple of adults to help with crowd control to Cadigan Cabin (the log cabin next to the parking lot.)  Here the Cubs can make a sea craft while waiting for camp to open!
  • When the camp gates open for the morning, parents and Cubs will hike into their campsite and begin setting up camp!  One equipment vehicle per pack will be allowed to drive to the campsite and unload.  Once unloaded the vehicle can return to the parking lot and give the vehicle pass to another vehicle if necessary.
  • Safety Reminders- please remind everyone that the parking lot is a busy place- watch for moving vehicles and us the buddy system, no one can ride in the back of a truck, and vehicles are not allowed to be kept in the campsites!
  • Health Forms- everyone attending must have one- this includes adults!  It does not require a doctors’ physical.  Health forms will be collected at the health lodge medical check-in.
  • Packs in the campsites on the Tenny side of camp- which includes Maguire, Brownsea and Bailey, will report as a group to the health lodge at 10 AM.  Bring your health forms with you.
  • Everyone must report to the Camp Orientation Meeting at 10:30 AM at the Main Waterfront ~ Retreat Area.
  • Packs on the main side of camp will then go to the health lodge for their medical check-in after the camp orientation meeting.  Make sure you bring your health forms with you!
